Bill Harrops Original Ballooning

Bill Harrop’s Original Ballooning

Bill Harrop’s Original Balloon Safaris is internationally hailed as Southern Africa’s best value, best quality tour operator and winner of the South African Tourism “Welcome Awards 2006″.

Bill Harrop’s “Original” Balloon Safaris has been operating since 1981 and is a family business run by Bill Harrop, his wife Mary, son Sam and daughter Sarah. They have a compliment of over 60 staff working with them to provide the best service possible. Bill Harrop’s employ only qualified and experienced professional pilots and run a fleet of six large hot air balloons, carrying between six and eighteen passengers each.

They offer a number of packages to suit everyone’s needs such as the Balloon Safari, which begins at sunrise with coffee or tea and biscuits. After a safety briefing guests take to the skies and gently hover over the beautiful Magalies River Valley or drift majestically high above the Magaliesberg range. After landing, guests are treated to a generous champagne breakfast.

The flight lasts approximately one hour, and the balloons go up every morning including weekends, weather permitting and depart from Harrop’s Skeerpoort Country Base on the border of Gauteng and North West Province, near Hartebeesport Dam. Minibus Transfers from various hotels can be arranged at extra cost.
The rates vary depending on the season and number of people from R2165 to R2770 inclusive. Special rates are available on request.

Another of their packages includes the Entabeni Balloon Safari. This safari includes accommodation at a choice of two luxury locations, three meals a day, a game drive and a balloon safari game spotting flight over the Entabeni Safari Conservancy, in the Waterberg area over mountains, waterfalls and terrain which varies from bushveld to unspoilt ravines.
The rates are from R4300 to R6625 per person sharing and are dependant on room type, group size and season. Special rates are available on request.

When setting off for your balloon safari, it is important to dress appropriately. As the trip departs at sunrise, the mornings can be extremely chilly but the day warms up pretty quickly and cooler clothes underneath a warm cover are recommended. Practical shoes are recommended. Don’t forget your camera and a data card with plenty of space as ballooning offers some most spectacular photo and video opportunities.

Ballooning is suitable for anyone from 7 to 70, Passengers should be able to jump unassisted from a height of 60cm and stand for the duration of the flight. Bill Harrop’s do offer hot air balloon flights for disabled passengers, subject to parameters noted for disabled passengers and a disclosure being made when booking.
