Hot Air Ballooning offers a kaleidoscope of scenes and colours with each flight being a unique once in a lifetime experience.

Passengers meet as the sun starts rising at one of the three launch sites in South Africa where they are welcomed with tea and coffee before a short safety briefing and introduction to ballooning.

Their main launch site in Cape Town (see all hot air balloon rides in Cape Town) is just off the N1 between Cape Town and Paarl. As the run rises over the Hotentot Holland Mountains in the Cape of Good Hope passengers can participate in setting up the balloon for inflation, before taking off into the skies around Cape Town.

Lifeballooning also offers flights from the small diamond mining town of Cullinun, 20 minutes East of Pretoria, right next to the Big Hole and a large game reserve. The town is famous for the Cullinun Diamond which is now property of the Queen of England and set in the crowned jewels.
The Cullinun flights don’t include breakfast but does include tea or coffee at the launch site and sparkling wine and orange juice after the flight.

Klein Joostenburg is situated about 20 min out of Cape Town on the N1 and the Klein Joostenburg bistro and Garden centre are a fantastic location to fly from. After launching, passengers are met by Table Mountain, one of the Seven Wonders of the World and can enjoy the majestic Cape wine farms below. After the flight passengers enjoy sparkling wine and orange juice before returning to the launch site for breakfast.

The flight lasts approximately an hour depending on the direction and speed of the wind. An in-flight photo will also be taken while in the air.
After landing, a retrieval vehicle arrives to pack the balloon, while passengers celebrate the flight with sparkling wine, a tradition that goes back to the first flight in the 18 Century. On return to the launch site passengers receive a certificate as evidence of the flight.

All Life ballooning pilots, operators and equipment are maintained in accordance with the regulations laid down by Civil Aviation (CAA), and abide by the laws relating to commercial service of a non-scheduled airline. Lifeballooning also operate the only accredited school in South Africa that provides pilot training for hot air balloons.

Flights are subject to availability and weather but range in price between R2799 per person for a weekday flight for minimum 4 and maximum 7 people R2100 per person for group bookings of 8 passengers.
